The Evolution of NATO
Created after World War II, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) played a pivotal role in fighting and ultimately winning the Cold War. Subsequently, NATO took on different roles in countries like Bosnia and Afghanistan. Recently, the role of NATO in Europe has been revisited in the midst of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Join Active Minds as we take a look at the triumphs and challenges of NATO and how it continues to adapt to the 21st century landscape.

Winter Welcome
Friday, November 21st 2025 | 5:00-8:00pm
Join us as we flip the switch on our holiday lights at the 29th Ave Town Center on Friday, November 21st. There will be live performances from the Denver Dolls & more, vendors selling goodies and a Winter Welcome bar selling hot chocolate and adult beverages!
The tree lighting ceremony will begin at 6:00pm!
Additionally, there will also be Girl Scouts selling s’mores, MCA partners giving away special treats and pictures with Santa beginning at 5:00pm.
*We will close 29th Avenue from Quebec to Roslyn Street at 8:00am to set up for the event.

The Art of Camille Pissarro
>From mid-October 2025 to February 2026, the Denver Art Museum will host the first American retrospective in 40 years of Camille Pissarro. Often referred to as the first Impressionist, Pissarro rewrote the rules of painting by documenting everyday life around him, from landscapes to cityscapes to the people that inhabited these spaces. Join Active Minds as we follow Pissarro from his upbringing in St. Thomas to the bustling artistic city that was 19th century Paris, and examine works that helped change the art of painting forever.

Istanbul: Biography of a City
Straddling the point where the Mediterranean and Black Seas meet, Istanbul is a city of two continents: Europe and Asia. Originally settled as Byzantium, it would later be named Constantinople before being taken in 1453 by the Ottoman Turks and given the name Istanbul. Sunday, October 12th | 8:30am-12:30pm
Shoppers will receive a coupon for every $10 they spend at the vendors' booths. Coupons can be redeemed at the pumpkin patch for a free pumpkin. There will be a variety of pumpkin sizes ranging from small to large. Pumpkin quantities are very limited and coupons are only valid while supplies last.

1 Ticket = 1 small pumpkin
3 Tickets = 1 medium pumpkin
5 Tickets = 1 large pumpkin
Pumpkins will be separated by sizes and located on the stage on the east side of The Green. Pumpkins are very limited and are not guaranteed. This market will be the final Farmers Market of the season.

Hosted by Dr. Vincent Piturro, Film Studies Professor at Metropolitan State University of Denver and writer of the Indie Prof column in the Front Porch newspaper, each month’s screening will include engaging insights and discussion.
The Cube Cinema Series will take place on the second Friday of every month*, featuring a curated selection of films both classic and contemporary. Come for the movie, stay for the conversation be prepared for a night that will keep you on the edge of your seat… and maybe make you think twice about your next shower.

The country has been led since 2014 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a controversial but widely popular leader from the BJP, a Hindu Nationalist party. His policies have alienated the Muslim minority within India, particularly in the disputed Muslim-majority region of Jammu and Kashmir. Join Active Minds as we explore the current situation in India as well as the political and historical backdrop against which it is set.

Denver Municipal Concert Band
The Denver Municipal Band’s "Sizzling Sounds of Summer" concert takes place on Saturday, September 6 at the South Green from 6-7:15 p.m. with the Concert Band. The last free concert in their summer series will include summer tunes from around the world including pieces by Chick Corea, Andrew Lloyd Weber, Clifford Brown, and more. Guest soloist, steel drum virtuoso, Tom Miller, will share a taste of the Caribbean in his solo works and Shane Endsley, renowned Denver-based jazz trumpeter, will play a newly commissioned arrangement of a the famous jazz ballad "I Remember Clifford" as a tribute to Shane’s mother, Pamela Endsley. Pamela played principal flute in the Denver and Colorado Symphonies and in the Denver Municipal Band for 40 years. She passed away this past February.
Bring a blanket, a picnic, and community spirit for this finale to summer with a lively, feel-good evening filled with music from across the globe. The concert is free and open to all. It will be held at 29th Avenue and Roslyn Street in South Green on September 6 from 6-7:15 p.m.

South Africa: From Apartheid to Global Citizen
Join Active Minds as we explore the history of South Africa, its struggle with race and its journey to rejoin the international community since apartheid ended in 1994. We will discuss the pivotal role played by Nelson Mandela, the impact of immigration/colonialism, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and other important aspects of this story. We will end with a look at the current events, challenges, and opportunities for South Africa.

2025 Central Park Kids Triathlon
REGISTRATION IS CLOSED FOR 2025
This race will have all the components of an official triathlon including, timing chips, finisher medals, race shirts, kids swag bag, etc.

6-7 years - 25 meter swim, 2.5K bike, 1K run
8-9 years - 50 meter swim, 3.5K bike, 1.5K run
10-11 years -100 meter swim, 5K bike, 2K run
12-13 years - 100 meter swim, 5K bike, 2.5K run
In order to keep this event safe, enrollment will be capped per age group. All athletes must be able to complete the swim portion of the race unassisted.
* Please note: If you register for the incorrect age group your registration will be cancelled and you will not be guaranteed a space in the race*

Transfer/Refund Policy There will be no refunds for this race.
If you participate in outside transfers, please note that the child that has transferred may still participate in the race, but will be disqualified from winning trophies.
MCA Kids Triathlon Transfer Policy:
The MCA does not accept transfers for the Kids Triathlon. If you participate in the selling and/or purchasing of outside transfers your child will be disqualified from current and future Central Park Kids Triathlons. Our transfer policy has been implemented in fairness to all the athletes who registered for the event to ensure that the event starts on time, for safety considerations and event management.
Considerable effort goes into producing an event such as a triathlon and funds are expended and applied in good faith based on registration. Transfers in the weeks prior to the Kids Triathlon causes considerable issues both monetarily and organizationally as packets have been prepared with sized t-shirts, custom bibs and timing chip numbers have been requested based on the participant registration.

Inclement Weather Policy In the event of inclement weather on race day, race status will be communicated via www.mca80238.com and an email to participants. In the event that the Kids Triathlon is canceled due to inclement weather, an attempt will be made to reschedule the event. Refunds will not be granted for cancelled or rescheduled events, including the Kids Triathlon.
Waiver Information
The undersigned agrees to save, indemnify, and hold the MCA Inc and their officers, directors, agents, employees, contractors, and subcontractors harmless from and against any and all damages, losses, liabilities, claims, costs, and expenses, including reasonable attorneys? fees asserted against any of the foregoing by the undersigned, his or her family, guests, employees, or invitees arising in any way out of the use, operation, or maintenance of the facility. This indemnification also shall apply to any reasonable Attorney’s fees, asserted by persons who have gained access to the facility as a result of actions or omissions of the undersigned.
I do hereby grant and give these groups the right to use my or my child's) photograph or image with or without my or my child’s name, both singly and in conjunction with other persons or objects and presentations, advertising, publicity and promotion relating thereto.
Participant Waiver:
In agreeing to participate in recreation and fitness activities at the MCA I agree as follows:
I fully understand and acknowledge that recreational and fitness activities have (a) inherent risks, dangers, and hazards and such exists in my use of any equipment and my participation in these activities; (b) my participation in such activities and/or use of such equipment may result in injury or illness including, but not limited to bodily injury, disease, strains, fractures, partial and/or total paralysis, death or other ailments that, could cause serious disability; (c) these risks and dangers may be caused by the negligence of the representatives, employees, or volunteers of the MCA, the negligence of the participants, the negligence of others, accidents, breaches of contract, or other causes; (d) by my participation in these activities and for use of equipment, I hereby assume all risks and dangers and all responsibility for any losses and/or damages whether caused in whole or in part by the negligence or the conduct of the representatives, employees, or volunteers of the MCA, or by any other person.
I, on behalf of myself, my personal representatives and my heirs, hereby voluntarily agree to release, waive, discharge, hold harmless, defend, and indemnify the MCA and its representatives, employees, and volunteers from any and all claims, actions or losses for bodily injury, property damage, wrongful death, loss of services or otherwise which may arise out of my use of any equipment or participation in these activities. I specifically understand that I am releasing, discharging, and waiving any claims or actions that I may have presently or in the future for the negligent acts or other conduct by the representatives, employees, and volunteers of the MCA.
